The Parícutin volcano is the youngest volcano in the Americas, and considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. The volcano first appeared as a fissure in a farmer's field near the village of Paricutín on February 20th, 1943. By the following week, the volcano had grown to the height of a five storey building. A year later it had risen 336 meters, burying the nearby village in molten lava.

The volcano is no longer active, and is quite safe to visit.
This exciting excursion is recommended for students who enjoy exercising outdoors, open spaces and the challenge of climbing a mountain.

Arriving by bus at Angahuan, we ride horseback towards the volcano. This journey takes about two and a half hours. Once at the foot of the crater, we dismount and begin to ascend the volcano. This final climb takes approximately one hour.

Although the ascent isn't easy, the view from almost 12,000 feet is stunning. For those with the stamina, and sense of adventure this is an excursion that should not be missed.
