History
The tropical beaches of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo are the perfect places to relax after a hard week of studying.
Zihuatanejo is the municipal center of the region, and has in recent years expanded considerably with new restaurants and bars springing up all the time. Ixtapa, 5 km up the coast from Zihuatanejo, is a purpose built resort, begun in the 1970s and now boasting some 5,000 hotel rooms and apartments.
The four-hour journey from Morelia to the Pacific Coast departs on Saturday at 7:00 a.m., returning Sunday at 9:00 p.m.
Things to do
In both locations, you can enjoy many sea side activities, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, jet skiing, or simply relaxing on the beach.
The best snorkelling can be found at Playa Coral on Isla Ixtapa. There are also some great scuba diving sites, with opportunities to see sea horses, nurse sharks, and turtles. Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo is one of the best swimming beaches, where you can also go parasailing and jet skiing.
All the beaches have numerous restaurants offering delicious seafood. You should try Tirjitas de Pescado and the barbecued Red Snapper.
